My Favorite Dream

Yeah, I’m still enjoying myself playing around with the black pad and silver gel pen from the previous post lol.

In any case, as much as I want to learn how to make these nice, polished illustrations that I see so many awesome artists make, my guilty pleasure is quick, messy drawings. ❤ I LOVE going through artists’ sketch books and drafts, and I actually do admire artists who can somehow make squiggles look, so, so polished! You know it takes skill when they can make SQUIGGLES look elegant.

I’m not quite there yet, but hey. =))))

Anyway, here’s a quick doodle of Dream of the Endless, from one of my favoritest bestest graphic novels of all time, Sandman (Vertigo Comics), penned by my favoritest bestest author of all time, Neil Gaiman.

Good night and sweet dreams. 😀

PS: YES, I SUCK AT TYPOGRAPHY AND MY HANDWRITING IS CHICKEN SCRATCH T__T

A Dream of a Thousand Cats

“If enough of us dream, if a bare thousand of us dream, we can change the world. We can dream it anew!”

– Visionary Cat (Sandman, Dream Country)

Just a simple one for today, LOL. It’s actually a brush pen drawing, with lettering in marker. Here’s what it actually looks like before shooping. XDD

Yeah, I’ve been trying for nice, solid, flowing lines, and I’m not sure if it worked. I’m also trying to practice simple lettering because seriously, I really suck at type. T__T  I’m kinda inspired to give it a try, though, because yesterday’s 60’s binge had me looking up posters and graphics from that decade, and I just LOVED how they did their lettering… all during a time when there was no Photoshop to speak of.

Before I go on, though, I just have to also say that this has got to be the most difficult post SO FAR, in this 365-day challenge, mainly because I’m falling asleep on my feet (been running on 2 hours of sleep since yesterday because I insisted on pulling an all-nighter to participate in the Elder Scrolls Online beta, HERP), and no ideas were coming to me AT ALL. X__x;; I struggled to squeeze ANYTHING out of my brain for about two hours before I finally got anything done. Frustrating as heck.

Oh, and I guess I should also mention that it’s 4am where I am, and I need to get up early later. AHAHAHAHAH oh gods, me and my life choices… oTL

Anyway, here’s my meager attempt at maybe a title page (or something…?) for a story called “A Dream of a Thousand Cats”, penned by one of my favorite authors, Neil Gaiman. It appears in the book Dream Country, which is Book 3 of the Sandman series (and I dunno if I’ve said this before, but if you haven’t read this series yet, please do so. It’s lovely…).

Good night.

Random Doodle: A word or two about cats

Blergh. Been a busy, busy day… X__x;;

So yeah, anyway, I decided to derp around with an old brush pen that I have lying around. One of the things that I love about drawing patterns and random lines is that I find it as a great way to just zen out and relax. So yeah, no matter how cluttered or noisy my head gets with deadlines, projects, grocery lists, to-dos, emails, bills, etc etc etc, sitting down for 30 minutes and just drawing patterns is a great way to quiet myself down.

In any case, I guess this counts as a bit of an experiment LOL. I think there’s still a lot to work on, and I might redo this at some point in the future, who knows (and yes, typography is one of my many weak points, sorry. I’m practicing, LOL). Oh and yeah, I love Neil Gaiman, and I love cats. So there, hehehe.

If by any chance anybody’s interested in the plain ink/uncolored version:

And yeah, I still need a scanner, LOL. XDDD

Delirium and her Mismatched Eyes

Delirium Delight Endless Sandman Neil Gaiman Fishy Psychedelic Butterflies Vertigo Comics Graphic Novel

Delirium was once Delight. And although that was long ago now, even today her eyes are badly matched; one eye is a vivid emerald green, spattered with silver flecks that move; her other eye is vein blue. Who knows what Delirium sees, through her mismatched eyes?

– Sandman #21: “Season of Mists”, preludium

Do you know why I stopped being Delight, my brother? I do. There are things not in your book. There are paths outside this garden. You would do well to remember that.

– Delirium to Destiny, in Sandman #47: “Brief Lives: 7”

Been a busy, busy day. I’m really tired,  and to be honest, I had half a mind to skip posting today. But then again, if I can’t even commit to a promise I made to myself, then I have no business committing to anything or anyone else, LOL. So yeah. Heh.

ANYWAY, I was rushing a doodle for today, and for some reason, it turned into Delirium, from Neil Gaiman’s graphic novel series, Sandman. Though I highly doubt the possibility of this, in case you have never heard of it before, go read it. It’s awesome.

I was also trying out something new in this doodle, though I’m not sure if it shows. It has something to do with Adobe Illustrator which I don’t normally touch for, like, ever. Try squinting a bit and see if you notice anything..?

LOL good night. 😀

Bastet’s Day Off

Because even busy cat goddesses need to unwind from time to time. :p And yes, I did happen to read a whole lot of Neil Gaiman stuff, growing up.

Was originally planning to have her hair be black… but you know how you have, like, 72 markers, and none of them are in the right color, or the color you need is out of ink…?

Yeah, that.

So. Lots of talk re: Sandman and JGL.

I COULDN’T HELP MYSELF.

Sandman is very close to my heart, so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DON’T BREAK MY FANGIRL FEELINGS T__T

(yes, this is a photoshop hackjob)

The Other Mother

Yay more patterns! And again, I really gotta say that drawing on that pattern was actually really, really relaxing zen stuff right there. It’s also good practice with line basics, I think, LOL.

Anyway, inspired by The Other Mother from the children’s book Coraline, by Neil Gaiman

Sandman: Morpheus

A bit of fanart featuring Morpheus from Neil Gaiman’s Sandman series of graphic novels. Mostly, I wanted to test out how exactly I’d draw his robes, so yeah. LOL and yeah, i have a problem with proportions when I’m not careful. ;w;

Anyway, I’m particularly happy with his hair in this one, so yeah, :p
