I’m glad you like my work, but….

*peeks in* Hi. LOL so yeah, I know I haven’t posted in a REALLY long while. Life kinda happened, I got busy, hell I GOT MARRIED. =)))

Which is why I’m a little sad that I had to come out of hiding like this. You see, it’s been brought to my attention, like, JUST NOW, that people have been basically stealing some of my artwork. While I’m aware that when it’s posted on the internet, it kinda becomes free game, I guess the optimistic side of me was still hoping for a bit of… I dunno… respect (???) when it comes to borrowing someone else’s work, especially if you’re going to use it for things such as BRANDING.

I’m no famous artist, and I’m semi-pro at best. Which kinda makes it worse for me because… COME ON. I’m small fish. Don’t take what little I got.

So when I find out that not only did some people take something that I made, but also removed my watermark, didn’t credit me, and also terribly mutilated the original piece with horrible edits… I can’t help but feel pretty darned offended.

Case in point…

Sigh… Just… wut.

And what’s worse is that some people seem to consider asking for permission as more of an afterthought.

4

If you’ve noticed, the commenter only asked for permission September 5, when they’ve already been using the image since August 31/September 1.

Look. I’m not selfish or greedy. I’m not asking for money, and if anything, us artists tend to be a very sharing bunch. But please, please, please, for the love of whatever gods you pray to, SOURCE AND CREDIT YOUR MATERIALS (I’m especially disappointed with the blog, because as supposedly reputable and highly-ranked bloggers, they should really know better). It’s really not much, nor is it difficult. The original image had A WATERMARK. A simple Google search would have saved everyone all this trouble. I’m also not hard to get hold of, as there’s the comments section, and I have a working contact page, and you really could have ASKED ME FIRST.

And please don’t remove the watermarks we put in there! You can even see in one of the images that someone tried but wasn’t able to successfully remove the entire DeviantArt watermark. That’s really… rude.

Heck, had you asked nicely, MAYBE I would have even edited or colored it myself for free! Unfortunately, it’s stuff like this that make us artists much more protective/defensive with our work. And that’s sad.

Alas, from now on, I would probably have to resort to horrible, horrible watermark mutilation. Like this.

bad-watermark

Please don’t make us have to do this just to be able to protect our property. 😦

In the meantime, here’s some possibly relevant reading material:

Peace out, and I hope I never have to write a post like this ever again.

UPDATE:

Both offending parties have removed the images from their sites/pages, for which I am very thankful. However, a bit disappointed that the motorcycle club also removed my post on their wall regarding the issue, and never bothered to reply/comment/message me about the matter… which again, feels sort of rude. But that’s okay because I have screenshots of it here. Yay.

Pocket-Sized Jose Rizal

YES, I’M ALIVE. And have a ton of blog backlog! LOL yeah, I had to focus on a bunch of projects recently, which meant that I ended up with a stack of daily unfinished/unposted doodles. But I think things are easing up a bit, or at least I’m getting the semblance of a schedule together, so hopefully I can get back on track. >_<;;

Anyway, here’s chibi Jose Rizal. LOL I seem to have taken it upon myself to make a whole bunch of hero chibis since I’ve been enjoying it quite a bit. So yeah. 😀

‘Atapang ‘atao!

LOL. Yeah, still working on some post backlogs. XDD

Anyway, Chibi Lapu-Lapu got me started on this whole thing (thank you, Tepai!), so I figured it prolly wouldn’t hurt to do a few more cute-fied national heroes. Heck if it can make a kid or two take interest in our national heroes, I think I’ll be pretty happy with that, haha!

So anyway, here’s our dear Supremo, Andres Bonifacio, showing everyone how much he hates that cedula. =)))

How the weather affects productivity

So summer has pretty much started creeping up on us here in Manila, and the days have been getting really warm and humid. So when it started raining yesterday, and we were getting cool winds and nice temperatures… a change of plans occurred LOL.

Well, I’m making up for it now LOLOLOL TOTALLY WORTH IT. ❤

Belated Happy Birthday, Gabriela Silang!

Phew. Just got back home from a long day out (yes, I actually do leave our house sometimes…) and I’m just posting this before I collapse into bed again LOL.

I kinda got into the groove after yesterday’s Lapu-Lapu doodle, so I decided, why not make one for Gabriela Silang? Another Filipino national hero, I always enjoyed reading about her story when I was in primary school, because she just seemed so bad-ass. I also figured that she deserved a chibi since a.) March 19th was her birthday, and b.) my family’s roots are also in the province of Ilocos Sur, so yeah. It seemed apt.

And with that, I’ll go into coma now. Yes, I still owe this blog a ton of posts, and hopefully I can get around to that soon. Good night. X__x;;

Maktan 1521: Chibi Lapu-Lapu

YES. I AM STILL ALIVE. X__X

LOL sorry for the break in posts. I actually have a bunch of doodles that I’ve been doing everyday, but this week has just been INSANE, so I haven’t been able to sit down and color/post/write. X__x;;; So yeah, expect more catch-up posts from me within the next few more days. ^_^;;

Anyway, here’s a chibi version of Lapu-Lapu, one of our national heroes, who was the first guy to resist colonization, and was the guy who totally kicked Magellan’s butt. On top of that, he is also the hero in the graphic novel /indie comic Maktan 1521, a creation of awesome Filipino artist and friend, Tepai Pascual (GO CHECK IT OUT, EVERYONE).

In the meantime, I’ll just go rest a bit for now, and then panic and flail later (hey, I’m learning to schedule).

Random Doodle: Wrong valley, girl…

LOL Feeling a little under the weather today… and I’m not sure if the fact that I blame the crazy weather  these past few days will now officially turn that into a literal statement. So yeah, I don’t really have much energy right now.

Anyway, today’s doodle is a depiction of something I encountered this afternoon on the way to the convenience store to pick up some supplies. This obviously-Filipina lady was talking obnoxiously/loudly to her friend, in this fake valley girl accent, complaining about how hot it is in Manila, unlike so-and-so city she’s supposedly been to. How I wish I could say that this was some sort of funny act she was putting up for her friend. All this was happening while the two of them were standing in front of a fishball cart, sipping soda in little plastic bags through flimsy plastic straws.

I was annoyed (I was already not in a good mood to begin with, since I was kinda sick), but I wanted to laugh right then and there and let her know how it was so hard to take her seriously while she was hungrily munching on a piece of betamax. It just seemed so surreal, you know?

Going back, after naming as many cities as she could in one breath, her friend suggested that they duck inside a nearby coffee shop since it had air-conditioning. What came next was a litany of reasons on why Little Miss Jetsetter couldn’t have coffee at that place, which basically boiled down to “I have no money.”

THEN, I laughed. I dunno if this was just extra-funny because I was already loopy to start with. But yeah. Affectations. Gotta love ’em.

ANYWAY, TIME FOR SOME BIOFLU.
